Five Brampton dentists are among the alleged victims after a former office manager was charged with fraud by Durham Regional Police this week.

Investigators with Durham’s Major Crime Fraud Unit say their investigation started last July when two Pickering area dentists filed a fraud complaint against their office manager.

Police allege cheques from dental patients payable to the dentists, along with cash payments, were stolen and deposited into a personal account. The accusations date back to April 2013.

The same woman is also accused of similar crimes in five dental offices in Brampton and Bramalea, dating back to September 2009.

Police allege a total of $160,000 in cheques and $48,000 in cash went missing.

Jean Hakim, 39, of Oshawa, has been charged with seven counts of fraud over $5,000, two counts of theft over $5,000, three counts of fraud under $5,000, three counts of uttering forged documents and one count of forgery.

Anyone with additional information can call Det. Const. David Jaciuk at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 5364.
