Janitor Arrested for Allegedly Huffing Nitrous Oxide at Dental Office

A 52-year-old Rochester man is in jail after allegedly huffing nitrous oxide at a dental office in northwest Rochester.
Lieutenant Mike Sadauskis said it happened Friday around 10 p.m. An employee stopped by the office and noticed a padlock had been knocked off a locked door and heard a hissing sound of what he believed was gas leaking.
According to a police report, the man called officers saying he also believed someone else was in the building.
Officers surveyed the building, but for safety reasons related to the gas, backed out and waited outside.
Lieutenant Sadauskis said a short time later, a building janitor, Patrick Borgen, exited the premises. Authorities said he appeared to be intoxicated. Lieutenant Sadauskis said officers believe Borgen had been huffing nitrous oxide from the tanks in the dental office.
According to a police report, the employee told officers that for the last two months, nitrous oxide tanks had mysteriously gone empty.
Lieutenant Sadauskis said Borgen claimed he was cleaning the building. Sadauskis added that Borgen was not supposed to be working that night.
Borgen was arrested and is facing possible charges of third-degree burglary, fourth-degree damage to property and theft of property.
